Quebec
We decided to do a little tour of lower Quebec today so headed out on Route 116 towardsVictoriaville and on to Richmond. We saw the Trail, mostly bikers on it, but didn't get a chance to stop as the road was too narrow for parking on the side. This route is through farm country, so we saw lots of big silos and smelled the aroma of manure. We also went under the big power lines taking electricity to the United States, several times. At Richmond we took Route 143 to Sherbrooke. This route took us right into the city but we did find Route 112 so we could head towards Montreal, our planned next stop. We left that route and went on to Route 10 next as it connects with Route 15 the one we needed tobe on to get to the campsite. Route 10 is a split highway, very busy with lots and lotsof transports and traffic. It is not very smooth, lots of patching, but not so bad as to interrupt my afternoon siesta. Well what looked good on paper at first didn't work in reality. We miscalculated and woundup getting on Route 15 too far north for our exit. So, we entered Montreal on a major highway in heavy afternoon traffic. Thank heavens the traffic ended up crawling along. My chauffeur thought about trying to turn around and head back south on Route 15 but that side had even more traffic and was going even more slowly. Finally, we saw an exit for Ottawa- HUll, worked our way into that lane and headed out of Dodge, excuse me, Montreal! There was little traffic and very few trucks on Route 40/417 as we headed to Ottawa. Very nice! Of course, as we entered the city traffic picked up (itwas supper hour by now) but we found and got to our cut off safely. We even made it to the road for the motel my chauffeur's friend told us to stay at. However, it does not sit right near the road and we ended up going up so far we headed out of town. We turned to head back and stopped to ask for directions. People at the first stop didn't know of the motel but at our next attempt the lady used the internet to access the motel and then called to get firm directions for us. We finally found it. I was hungry and tired by then but felt better after my supper. We went out for my constitutional and then to bed. Only one bed here so I slept on my cushion on the floor.
